Top Channels ranks the most-subscribed YouTube channels with regularly refreshed subscriber and view counts, and adds the filters — category, region, sort by views — that turn a leaderboard into something you can actually research with.

How the ranking works

The list is built from a curated directory of 161 major channels: the largest on the platform plus the leaders of each major category. Their subscriber and view figures are refreshed automatically on a schedule from YouTube's public data, so what you see is current to within hours, not a stale scrape from last year. You can sort by subscribers or by total views, and filter by category or by region.

Every figure is YouTube's public count. YouTube rounds subscriber numbers for any channel above 1,000 subscribers, which is why the leaderboard shows figures like 516M rather than an exact total — no public tool can show the exact number, only the creator can in YouTube Studio.

Why it is curated rather than everything

A list of every channel on YouTube would be a list of guesses. By tracking a defined set, every entry is a verified real channel with a working handle, and every number is refreshed rather than estimated. We add channels deliberately — new category leaders, fast risers — and the directory grows over time. If a channel you expected is missing, that is usually why.

What the numbers tell you

The most useful reading is the relationship between subscribers and views. Some channels carry enormous subscriber counts but modest ongoing views — a sign of a dormant or aging audience. Others have comparatively modest subscriber counts and colossal views, typical of channels driven by search, kids' content, or music, where people watch without subscribing. The ratio says more about a channel's present than either number alone.

Limits

Counts are refreshed on a schedule here rather than per second (the live counters do that). Region is our editorial tag for where a channel is based or primarily aimed, not a YouTube field.
