Trending shows what is on YouTube's official trending chart right now, by country and by category, with the view counts, ages, and channel sizes you need to actually read a trend instead of just scrolling it.

Where the list comes from

The page reads YouTube's own most-popular chart through the YouTube Data API, localized to the country you pick, up to 50 videos at a time. It is the same chart behind YouTube's Trending tab, so you are not looking at our opinion of what is hot — you are looking at YouTube's. Categories such as Music, Gaming, Film, News, and Sports are separate charts, which is why a niche trend that would be buried under music videos in the all-category view shows up clearly when you filter.

YouTube does not offer every category in every region. When a category is unavailable for the country you selected, we fall back to a search-based estimate for that region, so the page still gives you something useful rather than an empty list.

How to read it

Total views on their own are misleading because they reward age. The real signal is views relative to time: a video with 400,000 views six hours after upload is far hotter than one with two million after five days. Check the age next to the count.

Channel size is the second lens. A trending video from a channel with 50,000 subscribers is a breakout worth studying closely — something in that title, thumbnail, or topic broke through without a big audience pushing it. The same video from a channel with 50 million subscribers is an ordinary Tuesday. Then look across the top twenty for patterns: shared hooks in the titles, a recurring thumbnail style, a topic that appears three times.

Country and category filters

Trending is regional. The United States, United Kingdom, India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan have genuinely different charts, and a creator targeting one of them should watch that one. The category filter matters just as much: the default view is dominated by music and mainstream entertainment, while the Gaming, Education, or Science and Technology charts show what is moving in a specific corner of the platform.

What trending is not

It is not a list of the most-viewed videos on YouTube — for that, use Top Channels. YouTube's chart weights view velocity, where the views come from, the video's age, and deliberately avoids clickbait-heavy or repetitive content. Being on it is not a requirement for a successful channel; most of the best-performing videos on the platform never trend. Treat it as a market signal, not a scoreboard.

A practical routine

Check your niche's category chart once a week and note any format that appears two or three times — that repetition is the tell. When a working hook fits your channel, run your own title through the Title Rewriter to adapt it rather than copy it, and put your thumbnail next to the trending ones in the Thumbnail Tester. Trends decay within days, so the point is to act on the pattern quickly, not to chase a single video.

Frequently asked questions

How often does the trending list update?

YouTube refreshes its chart throughout the day. This page keeps a short cache so you see a near-live snapshot without hammering the API — reload after a few minutes if you want the latest state.

Why does trending look different by country?

Because YouTube maintains a separate chart per region. What is trending in India rarely matches the United States or Brazil. Pick the country your audience is in.

Why is a category missing for my country?

YouTube does not support every category chart in every region. When one is unavailable, we fall back to a search-based estimate so the page still returns results.

Is this the same as YouTube's own Trending tab?

It is built on the same underlying chart, presented with the stats YouTube's tab hides — view counts, upload age, and channel size side by side, plus category charts that are hard to reach on YouTube itself.

How do I get a video onto trending?

Honestly: you mostly don't aim for it. Trending rewards fast view velocity from a broad audience. The reliable path is the same as for growth in general — a title and thumbnail people click, and a video they keep watching. Velocity follows from that.
